Mount Tamborine was formed by lava from the great Mt Warning caldera. At 550metres above sea level in the Gold Coast hinterland, TamborineMountain plateau is consistently 5 degrees cooler than in Brisbane enjoying average daytime summer temps of 25degC and 18C at night with low humidity. Winter days usually dawn to clear blue skies with daytime temperatures reaching 20degC down to a cool 2degC overnight; it’s a perfect time for enjoying the open wood-log fireplace and ambience in our restaurant and cottages! Take warm clothing for the evenings all year round.

Mt Tamborine National Parks

Tamborine National Park reserve covers 1160 ha on Tamborine Plateau and around its foothills consisting of twelve sections of national park, including Queensland’s first gazetted in 1908, WitchesFalls National Park. There are a number of beautiful picnic areas as well as scenic drives and many bushwalks to such attractions as lookouts, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest areas, wet eucalypt forest, open forest and woodlands.

These give the nature lover the opportunity of a wide variety of walks, bird watching or simply sitting by a waterfall and soaking up the natural beauty. Some of the best places to visit in the park are Joalah, Cedar Creek, Palm Grove and WitchesFalls. All have picnic facilities and walking tracks.

Wildlife in the park includes Alberts lyrebird, Eastern whip birds and bower birds, the elusive platypus and a small species of wallaby, the Pademelon to mention a few.

Bird Watching

The generous reserve and park areas of Tamborine Mountain region make it an ideal location for keen bird watchers. The bird list, available on CD from the Tamborine Mountain Natural History Association totals 177. Regular visitors include the rare Alberts Lyrebird, Bowerbirds, butcher birds, Wedge Tailed Eagles, plus the beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet in their hundreds.    

Tamborine Mountain Heritage Centre
On Wongawallen Rd in Eagle Heights, is an historical park consisting of seven heritage buildings from the local area containing extensive displays relating to local history. The centre features a display of clothing c.1900-1945, history of the early European timber getters of the area and their equipment, artefacts of Aboriginal history, a diorama relating to the volcanic origin of the plateau, geological and survey displays, musical instruments, communication equipment and an audio-visual display of mountain birds and their songs. Also see a dairy, a blacksmith shop, an historic slab cottage with antique fittings and furnishings, an old general store with post office and barber's shop, and a quarter-scale model of an outdoor water wheel. The Centre is open on Sundays from 11.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. and at other times by arrangement.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens
On Forsythia Drive in Eagle Heightsthe 9-hectare gardens opened in 1988 are open 24 hours a day. Special collections include agapanthus, azaleas, begonias, bromeliads, camellias, coleus, hydrangeas and wisterias. Free entry. Highlight of the year is the Springtime on the Mountain Festival in early October.
